Former Sri Lankan cricketer Roshan Mahanama has responded to media speculations on taking up a coaching role with the national cricket team.
Mahanama is one of the highly respected individuals in the cricketing arena and his name has been floated around to take up a coaching role with the Sri Lankan national side.
Responding to a query during the launch of his latest autobiography, former Sri Lanka captain Roshan Mahanama said he is ready to seriously consider if there is a request.
“Earlier, there was an invitation for me to try and coach the team. I wanted time to reflect and see. I had some obligations towards my daughters. I had to settle them first. If you are asked to do something for your country you should think positively. That’s not something that I want to do. but if they want me to do it I will seriously consider,” Mahanama further revealed.
Mahanama also said he has not been in a dressing room environment for nearly 10 to 15 years.
In July, Sri Lanka spin bowling legend Muttiah Muralitharan had suggested that Sri Lanka should appoint Mahanama as the head coach of the National Cricket team.
“He is the only man I can think of who can change the current system. Mainly because of his discipline. I have spoken to the minister as well. Roshan Mahanama said that he wants time to think about it, but this is my opinion, I don’t know what SLC thinks about this,” Muralitharan who is also a member of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Advisory Committee said at the time.
Sri Lanka is currently looking for a Head Coach as current coach Mickey Arthur’s two-year term was not extended. (NewsWire)
