SL loses tourist to Istanbul: Inquiry launched into airport mishap

Authorities have commenced an investigation after a foreign tourist had claimed that he was forced to leave the country five hours after his arrival as the country was under partial lockdown and offered no services.

Posting a video on social media, the man from the United States of America (USA) relayed his journey of arriving in Sri Lanka.

He said he had complied with all the regulations of the country, only to realize that public transportation has been suspended and hotels and restaurants were also not in operation due to a partial lockdown.

Stating that he was forced to remain at the Airport village, the tourist said as he did not have an option, he decided to leave for Istanbul on the same flight that he had arrived in Sri Lanka, merely after just five hours in the country.

He called on the authorities to inform foreign tourists officially if the country was fully open or under a full or partial lockdown.

“There is problems there. You guys gotta open up or tell the world that you are closed,” the tourist stated in his video from Istanbul.

A senior Government Minister told NewsWire that an inquiry is currently being conducted into the incident. (NewsWire)
