SL vs SA : Sri Lanka down to 7 players with 4 players off the field

Update : Wanindu Hasaranga has returned to the field after receiving treatment for his injury.

Four Sri Lankan players who are part of the playing XI in the ongoing Test match against South Africa are currently struggling with injuries.

Both Dhananjaya de Silva and Kasun Rajitha have been ruled out of the game even before today’s 3rd day’s play.

Adding more worries for Sri Lanka spin bowler Wanindu Hasaranga and fast bowler Lahiru Kumara also left the field due to injury concerns today.

Details of both Kumara’s and Hasaranga’s injuries yet to be released.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne had to bring forth himself and batsman Kusal Mendis to bowl as Sri Lanka now only have the services of only 1 bowler, Vishna Fernando.

Sri Lanka will not face an embarrassment in the field, as they have a big 22 -member squad in South Africa with substitutes available.

Substitute players are not allowed to bat or ball unless player leaves the field due to concussion or Covid related issue.

But had they come with a normal 15- member squad they would have had to face a real issue of fielding 11 players.

Out of the 22 players named by Sri Lanka for the South Africa Tour, 6 players are currently injured. (NewsWire)
