SLC elections 2021 : Details of candidates

The Sports Ministry has announced the list of candidates set to contest the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) elections in May.

A number of candidates, including K. Mathivanan, Nishantha Ranatunga and Bandula Warnapura filed their nominations yesterday.

Calling themselves the ‘Big Three’, they filed their nominations along with the current office-bearers to contest the elections scheduled for 20 May.

New office-bearers will be elected to the SLC for the next two years via the elections.

Former SLC Vice President Mathivanan has submitted his nomination for the post of President, which he is set to contest alongside current SLC President Shammi Silva.

Ranatunga on the other hand will contest for the post of Secretary with Mohan de Silva who holds the post presently.

Meanwhile, Warnapura is contesting for a Sri Lanka cricket post for the first time, and has submitted nominations for the post of Vice President.

From among the current office bearers, Lalith Rambukwella is not contesting for the post of Assistant Treasurer.

In his place, Sujeeva Godaliyadda, currently a member of the ExCo has been nominated from the Shammi Silva camp to contest for the post.

Assistant Secretary Chryshantha Kapuwatte and Treasurer Lasantha Wickremasinghe have also submitted their nominations.

However, the Sports Ministry list does not contain the name of Venerable Battaramulle Seelarathna Thera who had also handed over nominations to contest for the post of Vice President of the SLC.
