Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Janaka Tissakuttiarachchi has been accused of subjecting a female MP to verbal sexual harassment during the 2022 Budget debate in parliament today.
Tissakuttiarachchi, known for his fiery speeches both in Parliament and elsewhere, made sexist remarks against SJB MP Rohini Kaviratna, who questioned rapidly increasing prices of essential goods during budget debate on a previous day.
Social media users have raised concerns and expressed their displeasure condemning the SLPP MPs remarks. (NewsWire)
I listened to a lot of speech in the budget 2022 debate. But this is the ugliest part I have ever heard of, SLPP MP Tissakuttiarachchi's verbally sexual harassment of a female MP in Parliament. #Lka pic.twitter.com/zlfdesaeub

Patriarchy in action:Misogyny, sexism & uncouth behaviour lacking decency endorsed by other laughing MPs.
When society tells women not to “make a big deal” of sexist remarks/jokes, that they don’t have sense of humour when they protest etc & normalize misogyny, this is result. https://t.co/gjktzz2RTY
