The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has suspended the party membership of Ukuwela Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) member Erandi Kumari.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the party membership has been suspended over allegations of assaulting a Government officer.
SLPP member Erandi Kumari is accused of assaulting a female Grama Seva (GS) Niladhari who was distributing Government provided essential relief packs to people isolated in Elkaduwa, in the Thalingamada GS Division.
The incident had occurred on Sunday (16), while the SLPP member had not been arrested over the incident.
As a result, all Grama Seva officers in the area had refrained from reporting to work yesterday in protest of the inaction against the SLPP member.
SLPP member Erandi Kumari was thereafter arrested by the Police and was later released on a personal bail of Rs. 50,000 by the court.
Sagara Kariyawasam said however, Erandi Kumari’s membership will be suspended until the SLPP completes investigations into the matter and draws a final decision. (NewsWire)
