SLSI test results of imported coconut oil revealed (Video)

The Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) has handed over the results of the samples of imported coconut oil that were subjected to tests, to the Director General (DG) of Customs.

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said the DG of the SLSI has confirmed that all imported coconut oil samples were rejected due to its substandard quality.

He said it was further revealed that the imported coconut oil samples tested by the SLSI contained Aflatoxins, which are poisonous carcinogens that are produced by certain molds which grow in soil, decaying vegetation, hay, and grains.

Imported coconut oil samples were subjected to tests after a test conducted by the SLSI recently had confirmed that unrefined coconut oil containing the carcinogenic aflatoxin, imported by one company, had failed its second quality test. (NewsWire)
