Sri Lanka’s Postal Department has warned the public of a financial scam via SMS, requesting payment via bank cards to clear parcels sent in their names.
Issuing a statement, the Postal Department said that fraudsters have been found to be stealing bank card details via the scam.
The department further said that the scam is being carried out utilising identities such as Sri Lanka Post, Sri Lanka Postal Department, and SL Post, as well as a website similar to the department’s official website.
The Postal Department clarified that it does not request bank details via SMS and does not carry out transactions using bank cards for parcel clearance.
The public has been requested to refrain from sharing their bank account or card details based on the fake SMSs sent by the fraudsters. (NewsWire)
