Sri Lanka Sports Minister Harin Fernando expressed confidence that the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s suspension on the island nation would be lifted “in the next few days.”
Addressing reporters in Wattala, the Minister offered reassurances following a turbulent period for Sri Lankan cricket, which saw it suspended by the ICC in November 2023 due to alleged government interference in the sport’s administration.
Fernando’s statement stems from recent communication with ICC officials, including CEO Geoff Allardice, who visited Sri Lanka earlier this month. According to the Minister, discussions with the ICC were “fruitful,” and the delegation appeared satisfied with the progress made in addressing concerns.
The suspension has inflicted a significant blow to Sri Lankan cricket economically with Sri Lanka missing out hosting the Under-19 World Cup and the annual ICC conference. (NewsWire)
