Sports Minister Harin Fernando has called for a special meeting with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials tomorrow to discuss the team’s performance in 2023 and plans for 2024, including the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The meeting, to be held at the Sports Ministry, will be attended by SLC Executive Committee members, consultants Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardena.
It is expected to be a comprehensive review, focusing on Sri Lanka’s disappointing performances in the ODI World Cup and Under-19 World Cup, as well as evaluating plans set for the T20 World Cup and beyond.
Reports indicate that Sri Lanka Cricket High Performance Center Consultant Sanath Jayasuriya submitted a critical report on the U-19 Cricket, raising concerns about various aspects and warning that Sri Lanka Cricket risks further decline unless the school cricket system, which produces the country’s players, is reviewed and improved.
