In a cost-cutting initiative, the newly appointed Sports Minister, Harin Fernando, has directed the relocation of the Sports State Ministry from the World Trade Center to the Sports Ministry building in Colombo – 07.
Reports highlight a significant monthly expenditure of Rs 4.2 million to maintain the State Minister’s office in the World Trade Center.
Minister Fernando underscored the practicality of leveraging existing infrastructure, stating that the State Minister can effectively carry out duties from the Sports Ministry office.
As he is also the Tourism Minister, Harin Fernando has communicated to the Ministry secretary that his office will be at the tourism ministry, allowing the state sports minister to operate from the Sports Ministry premises in Colombo -07.
Furthermore, Minister Fernando has instructed the Ministry Secretary to allocate the approximately Rs 50 million annually saved through this relocation to the Sports Development Fund. (NewsWire)
