Sri Lanka approves 2nd Covid-19 vaccine

The COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Russia, ‘Sputnik V’, has been approved for emergency use in Sri Lanka.

Acting Health Minister Professor Channa Jayasumana said the vaccine was approved by the Expert Committee of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority of Sri Lanka.

He said this is the second COVID-19 vaccine to be approved for usage in Sri Lanka.

The Government has already approved the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine, and has commenced vaccinating vulnerable groups and the public in Sri Lanka.
