Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met former Parliamentarians at Temple Trees yesterday.
In the meeting, he informed the former MPs that the government of Sri Lanka has not received any monetary funds from the international community with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
When former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that the opposition parties have been questioning on reception and expenditure of foreign funds and that it needs to be addressed, the Prime Minister let the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Mr. S. R. Artigala explain about it.
Mr. Artigala explained that the government of Sri Lanka has not received any funds as of yet, although an agreement was signed between the government of Sri Lanka and the World Bank, which will grant 127 million US dollars to overcome the current crisis due to the pandemic.
However, he also went onto state that the Health Ministry had received donations in the form of goods, while the financial funds expected to be transferred soon to Sri Lanka will also be used for the Health Ministry led operations against Covid-19.
