President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to conduct an immediate investigation on the Sri Lankans named in the Pandora Papers.
The President had further informed the Bribery Commission to submit a report on the investigations within a month.
President Rajapaksa had issued the directive to the Chairman of the Bribery Commission this morning.
Former Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Thirukumar Nadesan have been named in the Pandora Papers.
The Pandora Papers is a leak of almost 12 million documents that revealed hidden wealth, tax avoidance, and, in some cases, money laundering by some of the world’s rich and powerful.
Data pertaining to the documents were obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in Washington DC, which has been working with more than 140 media organisations on the biggest ever global investigation. (NewsWire)
