The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for emergency use in Sri Lanka.
State Minister Dr. Sudharshini Fernandopulle said the Advisory Board of the National Medicines Regulatory Board (NMRA) has approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine.
She further said the Government will place an order to secure 05 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
The Government is currently looking at securing other coronavirus vaccine brands due to a shortage of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine which was earlier obtained from India.
The Serum Institute of India has suspended the delivery of vaccine doses due to the current Covid outbreak in India.
Sri Lanka is in need of vaccines to provide the 2nd jab to people who were administered the AstraZeneca vaccine as the first dose.
The Government is also battling the third wave of the coronavirus which emerged following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April. (NewsWire)
