Sri Lankan artist and musician Natasha Rathnayake has highlighted the need for sexual education to break the stigma surrounding the subject of sex in Sri Lanka.
Rathnayake said that the primary reason for sex to be considered a taboo subject was the lack of sexual education in mostly rural, and some developed areas in the country.
She further emphasized the need to always protect one’s self and respect one’s partner when engaging in consensual sex.
The Sri Lankan artist expressed her view in a new talk show called “PillowTalk” introduced by Durex Sri Lanka.
Joining another episode of the “PillowTalk”, musician and performing artist Shermaine Willis shared her views on the subject of safe sex and use of contraceptives.
She emphasized that there is no shame in females carrying or buying a condom. “it’s better safe than sorry” she further said.
The show has been launched by Durex Sri Lanka with an aim to lay the foundation for breaking the existing stigma and normalizing open conversations about sex.
With sexual education being a controversial topic in Sri Lanka, Durex Sri Lanka believes the dissemination of knowledge about sex and sexuality is usually stigmatized and regarded with a narrow mindset rather than being viewed for what it really is.
Durex Sri Lanka added that it is society’s responsibility to equip the youth with the ability to make healthy decisions in the future. (NewsWire)
