Statement from NZ HC in Sri Lanka on Auckland terror attack

The New Zealand High Commission in Colombo has acknowledged, “with sadness, the terrorist attack carried out in Auckland today.”

Issuing a statement, the High Commission said “Our thoughts are with those injured in, or otherwise affected by, the attacks at this very difficult time.”

The New Zealand High Commission further said as PM Jacinda Ardern has stated, the perpetrator alone bears responsibility for these acts.

“The attack was carried out by an individual, not a faith, ethnicity or culture,” it said.

The High Commission added that New Zealand’s Sri Lankan community is, and will always be, an integral and treasured part of Kiwi society.

Six people were injured after a Sri Lankan man had carried out a knife attack in a supermarket in Auckland today.

However, he was shot dead by Police 60 seconds after commencing his attack.

The Sri Lankan extremist is said to have been under surveillance by New Zealand authorities for a long period of time. (NewsWire)
