Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne has reportedly issued a circular for senior police officers to stop the practice of ‘carrying away’ those who are found to have not worn face masks in public places or failed to maintain social distancing.
The Lankadeepa newspaper reported that this decision was taken in order to prevent police officers getting infected with Covid-19, in case those who were being carried away were already infected.
The circular issued by the IGP also reportedly has instructed police not to transport all those who are arrested without face masks in a single vehicle, as there is a risk of the virus transmitting within the group. (NewsWire)
