“Story isn’t accurate” Nasheed responds to Harsha

Former President and current Speaker of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed has refuted reports claiming that foreign nations have rejected his requests to help Sri Lanka.

Nasheed was recently appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to coordinate the relief efforts with other foreign nations to address its economic crisis.

Speaking on Nasheed’s efforts to contact foreign nations, Opposition MP Harsha de Silva told the media that several countries have refused to assist Sri Lanka.

He said the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohamed Bin Salman has questioned if Sri Lanka has a concrete plan on the matter and not to raise the matter until Sri Lanka draws up a concrete plan for resolving its economic crisis.

He further said that the Ruler of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has said he will consider the matter if Sri Lanka can send a list of things that remain to be sold.

Commenting on MP Harsha’s statement, Maldivian Speaker Mohamed Nasheed said reports in this regard are inaccurate.

He further said a number of countries are willing to help Sri Lanka and that the assistance will come through.

“@HarshadeSilvaMP is a long-time friend and we often meet. I always enjoy his company. This press story isn’t accurate though. I believe a number of countries are willing to help Sri Lanka, and that the assistance will come through,” he Tweeted. (NewsWire)
