The Sri Lanka Police has revealed details on the summons issued to former Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today.
The Police said the summons were issued based on a complaint filed by three doctors against Dr. Bandara.
They said the complaint was filed by doctors Prasanna Gunasena and Uthpala Indrawansa from the State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC), and Dr. Rasitha Wijewantha from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).
They have called on the CID to investigate Dr. Bandara on allegations he had levelled against the complainants during a recent YouTube Interview with senior Journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama.
Stating that the allegations have no basis and were personal attacks, the Doctors have requested the CID to interrogate Dr. Bandara, to ascertain proof for his allegations, and to find those who had motivated him to reveal so, the Police said.
Senior Journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama told NewsWire yesterday that Dr. Bandara had informed him of being summoned to the CID today to record a statement over the interview.
Speaking to Samarawickrama during the interview, the former Health Ministry official had severely criticized the current handling of the Covid situation in the country and also the high price of PCR and Antigen tests.
Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara who played a key role in the Health Ministry during the first and 2nd waves of the coronavirus was later removed from his post.
However, according to sources. Dr. Bandara had not reported to the CID today, informing them that he was unwell.
Lawyers representing the former Health Ministry official had informed the CID of his illness.
In response, the CID has provided a period of 14-days for Dr. Bandara to report to the Department.
Meanwhile, State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation Professor Channa Jayasumana had also commented on allegations.
Issuing a statement, Professor Jayasumana said the medical mafia was behind these allegations. (NewsWire)
