Switzerland to support proposed digitalization programme of Foreign Employment Bureau

Switzerland has agreed to provide its assistance towards a social security programme for migrant workers and to digitize the Labour Department and foreign employment-related services, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment stated.

In a statement, the Ministry stated that the agreement was arrived at during a discussion between Switzerland Ambassador Dominik Furgler and Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara yesterday (17). 

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara explained the projects in the pipeline for this year under his Ministry. 

The Swiss Ambassador said that the proposed digitization and social security programmes can be supported by utilizing the Swiss experience. 

He further said that Switzerland could provide the necessary support for the proposed digitization programme based on Switzerland’s experiences, while he also underlined that diplomatic work should also be digitized. 

The Ambassador was also apprised of the ‘Manusavi’ pension scheme for migrant workers. The Ambassador responded positively to providing Switzerland’s experience and support for the social security programme aimed at all workers. The Ambassador expressed his agreement to give full support to it. 

Minister Nanayakkara also explained to him the decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers to establish a Truth Commission, to enhance reconciliation. The effort garnered the Ambassador’s praise. (NewsWire)
