A teacher attached to a school in Kalthota has been arrested over the drowning of a 16-year-old girl in the Walawe river on Saturday (30).
The Police said the girl was reported missing, after which the Police had recovered her body after two- hours.
She was among 15 school students who had been taken for a river bath as an outdoor activity.
The Police said investigations have revealed that the teacher who had organized the tour had not received approval from the school principal or the Zonal Educational Director in this regard.
The Kalthota Police have arrested the teacher on charges of reckless and negligent action.
The Police said she will be produced before the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court today, while the Kalthota Police will continue further investigations. (NewsWire)
