A tense situation has been reported in Kinniya, Trincomalee condemning the ferry tragedy that had occurred in the Kuringankerni area this morning.
People have reportedly gathered in front of the Kinniya Divisional Secretariat and have launched a protest condemning the tragedy.
The protesters are voicing their displeasure against the authorities and the area politicians for their incompetency.
Several protesters have burnt tyres on the road, while shops have been closed in the area.
A tense situation has been reported between the protesters and the Police as a result of the protest.
The bodies of five victims have been recovered, while 17 others have been hospitalized.
The Sri Lanka Navy is currently engaged in search and rescue operations to find people reported missing in the incident. (NewsWire)
