The IIOGA together with the Interact club of IIGS organised Ilma’s first ever career guidance fair on the 26th of March at the school auditorium.
The fair was divided into two segments where the students were given career guidance and counselling to enhance awareness and knowledge.
Segment 1 featured a panel of successful professionals and entrepreneurs from fields ranging from medicine to architecture to fashion design, who spoke of their experience, their insight and the much needed tips and techniques to pursue studies in the chosen fields.
Dr Wardha Refai and Dr Farzan Thahir covered the field of medicine, Chartered Architect Muteara Tegal covered the architectural component, Sabeera Cader gave insight on law and related matters, Jeeza Jameel spoke of fashion design and entrepreneurship, Tharanga Peiriscovered IT in today’s high tech world, Megara Tegal; a fully fledged journalist covered her area of expertise, Mayanthi Kulatunga gave hope to those interested in pursuing local degrees at state and semi state universities, Aamina Nizar enlightened the audience on photography and creativity, Abeeda Suleiman covered the study of English and English literature and Fazeela Samsudeen wrapped it up with insight on management and accounting.
Segment 2 was a walk-in open house event open to all students and parents who were given the opportunity to meet and explore the career options available at the various private institutes and colleges such as APIIT, SLTC, AOD, HRMI and CGE.

CIMA our platinum Sponsor for the event encouraged the youth to engage in accounting and management studies to better their future.
Our banking partner HNB was available to assist students and their parents with information on education loans.
The aim of the fair was to increase social and market participation of the youth by increasing their awareness of the wide variety of professions and available study paths they need to take in order to find employment. In addition, the youth’s ability to recognise their skills is strengthened thereby motivating them to pursue a field they enjoy and are passionate about.
