Thisara Perera’s record to forget, Ashwin’s record now under Thisara’s name

Sri Lanka made a remarkable comeback today to win the second T20I against West Indies by 43 runs.

However, it was not a night to savour for Thisara Perera as he was taken for 42 runs in just the two overs he bowled.

Incidentally, this is the most expensive economy rate recorded by a bowler in a T20I innings where a minimum of 2 overs were bowled.

Thisara’s economy rate of 21 in the last match is just ahead of India’s R Ashwin, Scotland’s Mark Watt and SL’s Jeffrey Vandersay who had recorded economy rates of 20.5 in one occasion each previously.

Highest economy rate in a T20I innings (min: 2 overs):-

21.0 – Thisara Perera v WI, today
20.5 – R Ashwin v AUS in 2013
20.5 – Mark Watt v AFG in 2015
20.5 – Jeffrey Vandersay v NZ in 2016
20.2 – Ben Wheeler v AUS in 2018
