Three arrested over Madurankuliya ATM theft

Three suspects have been arrested in connection to the theft of over Rs. 10 million from an ATM belonging to a private bank in Madurankuliya, Puttalam. 

The Police stated Rs.10,549,000 was stolen from the ATM of a private bank located at the 10 KM post area in Madurankuliya on October 08, 2023.

Based on investigations conducted into the robbery, three suspects were arrested in Anuradhapura last morning. 

Interrogations had led to the Police seizing the remainder of the stolen cash, a sum of Rs. 9, 277,000, from the suspects’ possession.

The suspects are aged 28,32, and 35 years, and are residents of Galgamuwa, Werullagama, and Anuradhapura. 

Two of the suspects have been identified as security officers of a private firm in charge of depositing cash at the ATM and transporting cash, while the other suspect is a mechanic. 

The Police have seized several items, including helmets and spray paint cans, used by the suspects to carry out the robbery.

The suspects and seized items have been handed over to the Madurankuliya Police for further investigations. (NewsWire)
