Three- Wheeler Union raises concerns over local and international taxi services operating in SL

The All- Island Three-Wheeler Driver’s Union has raised concerns over local and international organizations sanctioned to operate taxi services in Sri Lanka.

President of the Union Lalith Dharmasekara said some technology based taxi services are operating without paying taxes to the Government.

Stating that some international organizations are making millions in profits, he said such organizations do not have local offices in Sri Lanka.

“The passengers and drivers are forced to contact the organization’s office located in India to resolve issues,” he said.

Dharmasekara further said the operations of these organizations have an impact on the foreign exchange of Sri Lanka which the Government is attempting to safeguard due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

He added that one particular international taxi service operating in Sri Lanka is reportedly depositing nearly Rs. 2 billion in profits per month to its overseas account. (NewsWire)
