President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has invited a delegation from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for a meeting to discuss reconciliation.
The meeting will take place at the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday, TNA MP Shanakyan Rasamanickam said.
This will be first time that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is meeting TNA MPs for a formal meeting, a similar meeting planned for last year was cancelled at the last minute.
The Sunday Times reported that the upcoming meeting is the result of India’s call to the Government to address the ‘aspirations of the Tamils’ including the implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. The latest call was made in a statement by Indra Mani Pandey, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, made to the UN Human Rights Council last week. (NewsWire)
