Top Govt official remanded over Bribery allegation: More details

The Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority Supine Pathirage and two others, who were arrested over an alleged Rs 10 million bribe, were remanded until November 13.

Three individuals  were arrested yesterday (10) evening by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), while allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10 million from a businessman.

The arrests had been made by CIABOC officials upon receiving information from Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, according to State Newspaper Daily News

Minister Dr. Rajapakshe when contacted by the Daily News confirmed that he had given the information to CIABOC to carry out the raid and arrest the suspects.

“The businessman from whom the bribe was taken by the three suspects had personally informed me about the incident upon which I informed the CIABOC Director General to conduct the raid, Minister Dr. Rajapakshe said.

It is also learnt that the three suspects have solicited the bribe inside the Ministry of Environment premises for a project that is being conducted by the Central Environmental Authority. (NewsWire)
