Traffic fine: Axe attack on Police officer

A Traffic Police officer attached to the Ambalantota Police station has been attacked with an axe on Saturday morning.

The axe had struck the officer near the back of his neck. The injured Police officer has been admitted to the Hambantota General Hospital.

The Police reported that the incident had taken place on Saturday, opposite the clock tower at Ambalantota city center.

The suspect had consumed poison after attacking the Police officer.

He was admitted to the Ambalantota Hospital and then later transferred to the Hambantota General Hospital for further treatment.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect had been issued a ticket by an officer from the Ambalantota Police station on the 25th of January for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He had been angry over the incident and has decided to take it out on the Police officer.

However, he had attacked a different Police officer with the axe, who looked similar to the officer who issued the fine. (NewsWire)
