Two high-ranking officials of the Department of Immigration and Emigration have been apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on charges of issuing falsified passports.
The individuals in question, a serving Deputy Controller, and a former Deputy Controller, were allegedly involved in providing fraudulent travel documents to individuals associated with the underworld. Among those who allegedly received these passports are Nuresh Supun Dayaratne, known as ‘Hinatiyana Mahesh’, and Shan Arosh Liyanage, also known as ‘Mathugama Shan’.
The arrests mark a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities linked to forged documentation. Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the matter to uncover the extent of the network involved in these illicit activities. (NewsWire)
