Two suspects were arrested by the Pallai Police while attempting to smuggle 4.5kg of TNT explosives in Ariyalai, Jaffna yesterday (June 22).
Acting on information received, the Pallai Police has arrested the suspects, who are said to be de-mining workers, from Meesalai and Ariyalai. During subsequent search, Police recovered the hoard of high explosives from Muhamalai, the Police said.
According to the Police, the suspects are believed to have collected the explosives during de-mining operations in the area.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the motive of collecting the explosives, the Police added.
