Former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga says the National List seat of the United National Party (UNP) must be granted to Leader of the Party Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Ranatunga mentioned this to reporters after attending the 74th anniversary of the UNP held at the party headquarters in Sirikotha yesterday (06).
Voicing his personal opinion, Ranatunga said that he was initially against granting the National List seat to Ranil Wickremesinghe, but taking into consideration the current situation in the country, identifies Wickremesinghe as the ideal candidate.
“The Government is set to bring forth the 20th Amendment to the Constitution. Various discussions will be held on the amendment. I personally believe that Ranil Wickremesinghe is the ideal person, as he has extensive knowledge on the subject”, he explained.
Ranatunga added that as a result of this requirement it has been requested from UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to take the National List seat to enter Parliament, but he has declined the offer. (NewsWire)
