Update on increasing bus fare

Bus fares will have to be amended and increased at least to a minimum fare eventually, even if it is done involuntarily, State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama said.

He said a slight increase in bus fares will be implemented by this Wednesday (29).

State Minister Amunugama made the observation to the media while participating in a development project in the Ankumbura area in Harispattuwa.

“With regard to an increase in bus fares, it has come to a situation where we have to impose a minimum amendment to the bus fares after taking into consideration the passengers. This will be implemented under the condition that bus fares can be reduced again,” he said.

Stating that this bus fare amendment will have to be introduced by this week, he said it is being implemented involuntarily.

“The fares will be reduced once again when the fuel prices decrease and the Government removes the restriction on transporting passengers as per the seating capacity,” he added. (NewsWire)
