The United States (US) has revealed there is no change to the terrorist threat level issued to Sri Lanka, despite an updated travel advisory being issued to its citizens.
Updated travel advise on Sri Lanka issued by the US State Department on Monday warns Americans not to travel to Sri Lanka.
“Do not travel to Sri Lanka due to COVID-19. Exercise increased caution in Sri Lanka due to terrorism,” the travel advisory said.
Despite the travel advisory raising fears that there was a terrorist threat to Sri Lanka, the US Embassy in Sri Lanka clarified that the travel advisory had been updated from Level 3 (reconsider travel) to Level 4 (do not travel) solely due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country.
The US Embassy in Sri Lanka further assured that there is no change to the terrorist threat level.
The terror threat level against Sri Lanka issued by the US remains unchanged since the 2019 Easter attacks. (NewsWire)
