The Ministry of Finance states that the market for the importation of vehicles will not be opened soon. Secretary to the Finance Ministry said this during a press briefing held yesterday (13)
“We stopped importing vehicles last March. Imports have been restricted. I don’t think priority should be given to resume this. Some may disagree with me but the market will not open for another 6 to 7 months to import vehicles.”
Meanwhile, at the media briefing Minister Basil Rajapaksa was questioned regarding the sectors and goods that are about to be taxed.
“We have identified several areas where taxes should be levied. Undue advantage can be taken if they are put out earlier. I have been advised by the secretary of the finance ministry not to reveal what those items are. You can find out soon” he replied. (NewsWire)
