The Sri Lanka cricket team has refuted claims that star bowler Wanindu Hasaranga has been deliberately picked for the Test series against Bangladesh to allegedly avoid suspension from the upcoming World Cup.
Addressing questions raised by the media during the ongoing Bangladesh tour, Sri Lanka cricket team manager Mahinda Halangoda said incorrect information has been shared with the media.
Clarifying the claims, Halangoda said that Wanindu Hasaranga who had initially announced his retirement from Test cricket, had changed his mind a few weeks ago, reversing his decision.
Halangoda further said that the Sri Lankan bowler had already submitted a letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket administration informing the change of decision prior to the Bangladesh tour.
“The letter was with the SLC selectors well before. After much consideration, the selectors decided to include him in the Test squad. It has nothing to do with the World Cup,” he clarified.
Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh in the first test of the two-test series in Sylhet, Bangladesh on Sunday (Mar 24). (NewsWire)
