The Ratnapura District Secretary has issued instructions to evacuate families from high-risk areas in order to prepare for a major flood situation.
Malini Lokupothagama, the District Secretary of Ratnapura has told NewsFirst that the water level of the Kalu River is rising towards a major flood in Ratnapura.
2 deaths were also reported from Ratnapura earlier today after a woman and a child were buried alive under an earth embankment.
“Communities in Flood plain of the following DS Div. (Rathnapura, Elapatha, Kuruwita, Kiriella, Ayagama) are advised to evacuate to safe places” Disaster Management Center announced few hours ago.
