WATCH : Colombo Nattami’s launch strike

The Natamis operating in Colombo have staged a protest today calling for an increase of Rs. 15 to the payment offered for the transportation and delivery of goods.

They told reporters that the payment offered for the transportation and delivery of goods was insufficient.

Stating that they are offered only Rs. 10, 8, 0r 6 currently, the Natamis said that at times the vendors provide payment as they wish.

“We want a payment of Rs. 15 for the fifteen items that we transport and deliver. We are making a fair request. The cost of living is high at present. A cup of tea at a normal hotel is Rs. 30. The price of rice is also increasing with each passing day. We are finding it hard to carry on with our livelihoods as a result,” the Natamis pointed out.

They further emphasized that they will not resume operations until their demands are met, adding that they will also not allow anyone else coming from outside to operate.

Meanwhile, vendors have stated that they are not in a position to provide the payment requested by the Natamis.

They further said that a decision in this regard will be taken following a discussion with their association. (NewsWire)
