Former Sri Lanka President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has revealed she was diagnosed with cancer six years after her tenure as the Head of State.

Speaking during an interview with ‘Lady Leader’, she revealed that she may have fallen ill due to the stress she underwent after the conclusion of her tenure as the Head of State.

Chandrika Kumaratunge said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had caused severe stress after her tenure, while her own party members too had sidelined her on multiple occasions contributing to her stress.

She revealed that she had been diagnosed with first stage breast cancer nearly six years after her presidential term.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said she was able to recover after undergoing radiotherapy, and has not relapsed during the last 9-10 years.
