The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) says the decision to nominate Venerable Athureliya Rathana Thero to fill the National List seat of the Our People’s Power Party (OPPP) was based on a mutual consensus.
BBS General Secretary Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero told reporters that a special media briefing will be held in the coming days to inform the public on how Venerable Rathana Thero was nominated, and the future course of action.
The Election Commission recently announced that Leader of the Our People’s Power Party Venerable Athureliya Rathana Thero has been approved to fill the party’s National List seat in Parliament.
The OPPP fell into a crisis after winning one National List seat in the General Elections held in August.
Members of the Party after much deliberation had reached a common consensus to appoint Venerable Gnanasara Thero via the National List.
However, the OPPP’s General Secretary Venerable Vadinagala Wimalatissa Thero was reported missing prior to the day to submit the nomination to the National Election Commission. (NewsWire)
