The State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) has launched another locally produced medicine, Flucloxacillin 500mg Capsules BP.
Flucloxacillin is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic of the group of isoxazolyl penicillins for treating infections.
The first batch of the capsules was handed over to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa by State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana at a ceremony yesterday.
The production of Flucloxacillin is expected to save the country about Rs.70 million a year, PM office said.
The State Pharmaceutical Corporation produces about three million tablets and capsules a year.
Flucloxacillin has been manufactured under the “New Drugs for a New Country” programme launched by the Government to produce 50 percent of Sri Lanka’s total pharmaceuticals requirement locally. (NewsWire)
