Former President Maithripala Sirisena has visited the site of the indigenous tree ‘Crudia Zeylanica’ which caused controversy last week.
The Former President in a Facebook post said that he is against relocating the tree from its current location and that the expressway path should be altered instead.
Mr. Sirisena who was also the minister of environment in the previous government, also stated that he does not believe this tree could be conserved successfully in a different location considering its size, age and the root structure.
He has further commended the efforts of The Buddhist Clergy, Government officials and Environmentalists on their efforts to protect this tree. (NewsWire)
