President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has commented on the controversial allegations made by SJB Parliamentarian Ashok Abeysinghe.
The President made the following comments while addressing the gathering at the 14th phase of “Gama Samaga Pilisandarak” program held in Galagoda area in Hikkaduwa, Galle today (13).
“An opposition MP had accused that Myself, Basil Rajapaksa and Nissanka Senadhipathi are behind the Easter Sunder attacks. I instructed the CID to summon the MP and collect relevant information from him because concealing information is a crime.
However, the MP has told that he was unconscious, he doesn’t remember and he doesn’t know such information. This is the kind of information they try to convey to the public. If we didn’t investigate on this, this kind of baseless allegations would have been spread amongst the public. If the opposition is making absurd allegations in a national issue like this, then you can imagine what kind of lies they spread on other matters. As an opposition you can make allegations, but they have to be factual, not this kind of fabrications to mislead the people.” he said.
Previously, Police spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana had said that after making the controversial statement, MP Abeysinghe himself had admitted to the CID that this statement was baseless.
