Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was seen addressing Parliament from the Opposition alone today, as the main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) was engaged in a protest for the second consecutive day.
The SJB Parliamentarians boycotted Parliament sessions from yesterday after accusing ruling party MPs of trying to assault MP Manusha Nanayakkara on two occasions after his speeches in Parliament on Friday (03) and Saturday (04).
Addressing Parliament today, United National Party (UNP) MP Wickremesinghe questioned the motive behind Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s visit to India, in the midst of the debate on the Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2022 which is currently underway in Parliament.
Questioning the visit, the MP inquired if the Finance Minister had intended to obtain financial assistance from India during his visit.
He said it was necessary to know the reason for his visit, as the Governor of the Central Bank had clearly stated that the Government will not bow down and seek loans from any country.
MP Ranil Wickremesinghe pointed out that it was essential that the Finance Minister be present during the debate on Budget 2022. (NewsWire)
