Watch: Slave Island Colonial Heritage Building demolished despite opposition

The ‘De Soyza’ building in Slave Island, which is an iconic landmark in Colombo, has been demolished despite objections by the Department of Archeology, News First reported.

The building which is considered a treasure in the old part of Colombo is said to be over 150 years old.

The tenants of the De Soyza Building, have begun vacating their families and businesses after the Urban Development Authority (UDA) began demolishing the building.

The demolition process was expedited after a part of the building collapsed due to deterioration in June.

The UDA is expected to offer the land to the Indian-owned Tata Housing Development Company. (NewsWire)
