WATCH : Sri Lanka to ban wearing of face veils in public: Justice Minister

A proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet to amend the Muslim law in Sri Lanka by November 2021.

Justice Minister Ali Sabry said the amendments pertain to the proposed increase in the minimum age of marriage to 18 and allowing the bride to sign the marriage document.

The proposal also contains a ban on the burqa in public places due to security reasons.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Ali Sabry reiterated that he will not permit any changes to the laws pertaining to Buddhism in the country under his tenure. (NewsWire)
