WATCH : “Sri Lanka’s first court session held via Video Conferencing”

As a first step in using new technology effectively with regard to the judicial process, the first testing for such pilot project was launched today, with connecting the Magistrate Courts in Hulftsdorp and the Prisons.

Justice Ministry says today was the first time cases were called via video conferencing in Sri Lankan history.

“This effort was coordinated by Sri Lanka Telecom within a few days time, as per the instructions issued by the Minister.” Justice Ministry said in a statement.

A dedicated software has been created to facilitate this judicial process, whereas the prisoners or suspects of cases were produced at a special technologically equipped zone in the Welikada Prison premises instead of physically producing them before the court.
