A decision has been taken to suspend operations of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority located in Colpetty.
According to reports, the decision was taken after it was observed that the building housing the NGJA was sinking.
However, on the advise of State Minister of Gem and Jewellery related Industries Lohan Ratwatte, the NGJA has been relocated to the State Ministry of Gem and Jewellery in Narahenpita.
Three priceless gemstones that were kept in a safe under the watch of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority have been placed at the Bank of Ceylon, under STF protection.
The gemstones will remain at the Bank of Ceylon until the NGJA is properly relocated to the new premises. (NewsWire)
