The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has clarified his statement issued yesterday with regard to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith had claimed that the 2019 Easter attacks was carried out by a group who used the attacks to strengthen their political power.
“Our brethren were attacked not by religious extremism, but by a group that exploited it to use the attackers as pawns in order to strengthen their political power,” the Cardinal went on to say.
He said “What we see in this is not religious fanaticism or a love for a religion, but the attempts of certain forces to consolidate their political position”.
However, addressing the media today, the Archbishop clarified that he had not meant any political factions in the country.
He explained that he had pointed out international factions with political influence backing Wahabism in other nations. (NewsWire)
